BarAmigo’s two pesos – Get your Turkish dancing shoes on
When visited – Sat 2 Apr 2011 11.30pm to 1am
What’s Turkish but illegal to wear in Turkey? Apparent a fez… I’m probably wrong on two counts as my brief research suggests it might not be Turkish, but rather Moroccan, and that it might only be politically incorrect rather than illegal… I’m open to someone telling me what’s right.

Picture this with heaps of people and the band. That's Saturday night at Fad Gallery. Photo from fadgallery.com.au
It’s the first Saturday of the month and the regular monthly band, Fire & Theft are grooving away. I struggle to describe music at the best of times so I had to revert to their website… They play “swing gypsy rockability”. Sounds weird but it works. Fad Gallery is packed with many dancing along. Pretty much dancing room only between the band and the bar.
If you’re not up for the music, the lounge like area towards the entrance provides an area where you can watch and try to chill. The grooves from the band make it difficult to talk without almost yelling but people aren’t really here to have that long conversation. You’re here because of the band and the lively atmosphere they create. You can tell that Fire & Theft are seasoned performers as they do put on a good show.
The band really creates the night at Fad. If it weren’t for the liveliness of the band, it’d be a rather dull night. The dimly lit venue is only inviting when there’s many people dancing away.
If the band isn’t playing, rip into the $6.50 Coopers Sparkling stubbies. Well… you can probably rip into the Coopers anyway even if the band is playing. If you are getting into the Coopers, tell the bar staff to roll it for you otherwise they’d forget. $6.50 for a Coopers stubby is very reasonably priced for a city venue.
And speaking of drinks… Fad Gallery has Carlton Draught cans! I know its not that exciting to deserve an exclamation mark but I did promise to buy my friend a pot of Carlton… a can was close enough… She loved (i mean slapped) me for it… figuratively…
Wide range in crowd from mid 20s through to late 30s. There’s the occasional mid 40s group of people around. No real need to dress up to come to Fad on a Saturday night. It’s pretty relaxed in this respect as people are here to check out the music and enjoy the tunes.
Check out Fad for the live music and get your dancing shoes on. And the reasonably priced drinks.
Salud
