24 Moons is a rather arty, classy cocktail bar with many lounges to chill out with your group of friends and a decent space to get dancing and enjoy the music of the band or check out that burlesque show. It’s dimly lit, full of character and has a lively atmosphere when the music starts up.

I’m rather disappointed in myself that I haven’t been to 24 Moons before. From 5.30pm through to about 7pm it’s perfect for a quiet afterwork drink to chat and catch up with friends. The lounges are pretty comfy and provide a nice area to take a seat and chill out. Music is only background music so it’s easy to have that conversation. Plus there aren’t too many people around so it’s no problem grabbing a lounge area. And it’s cold outside so the indoor space makes 24 Moons a good winter place.

Comfy lounges to rest those legs

The crowd is rather corporate with the occasional group who look a little alternative but still well dressed. Its Friday evening so the crowd has gotta be typically corporate as you’d expect. Age range is from mid 20s through early 30s. Maybe it’s skewed cause my friend has just finished up work at a large accounting firm and is having her leaving drinks here.

Up until 9pm its “happy hour”. Good if you’re into champers with $6 glasses of some pretty good champagne. Also good for beer drinkers with either Mountain Goat Steam Ale or St. Arnou Pilsner at $5 for 330ml. Way better than the standard $7.50. Wine drinkers would be disappointed with 2 reds and 2 whites available by the glass. Not too much choice as you’d expect at a venue like 24 Moons.

From 7pm, the band starts up and which is great to create a lively atmosphere and get the place buzzing. We’ve now moved from our lounge to the bar which starts to fill out rather quickly. Depending on the moment you get to the bar, you will need to wait for a drink.

Get dancing to the funk band

24 Moons has various musical or burlesque acts on at any point in time so check out their website to see what’s going on. Tonight it’s a funk two piece band playing covers with their own funk spin. They are actually pretty good and it shows as a few people get up and start dancing. It’s only 7.30pm so it’s a pretty good effort.

If we were sticking around longer, I could see myself up there on the dancefloor embarrassing myself sometime. Well maybe it would be because of the $5 beers. Anyway, thankfully for everyone else in 24 Moons, my friends decide it’s time for dinner…. bring on some stomach lining dumplings before heading out elsewhere… I used to say eating is cheating… and yes I cheated…
