BarAmigo’s two pesos – At least somewhere is open at 1am with still has quite a few people around.
When visited – Fri night (Sat morning) 21 May 2011 1.15am to 2.30am
You can trust the Long Room to still be open early on a Saturday morning and still have a reasonable amount of people there. It is a classy venue but at this time, I don’t think anyone cares. Everyone just wants to continue their big night and party on.
Emerald Peacock just closed and we need somewhere to kick on. Cookie is being really tight and won’t let us in. Campari House is pretty dead and so is Charlie’s Bar… well Charlie’s Bar is probably about to close. So the Long Room it is.
No line at 1.15am. Easy to get in. I guess we don’t appear overly smashed and are well dressed like most of the crowd… I’m in a shirt, dressy jeans and leather shoes and my mate is in a suit. Girls are in their dresses and high heels. You won’t see many girls in jeans at Long Room. The crowd is typically well dressed and looks like professionals with cash to burn. It wouldn’t be a cheap night if you’re spending a few hours here at Long Room.
Crowd ranges from mid/late 20s through to mid 30s plus. There’s still a few suits around. Well it wouldn’t be the Long Room without some suits around I reckon. It’s also noticeable that there’s a few Asians around. Nothing near an Asian night but there’s various groups of Asian chicks who have had quite a few drinks by this time. Just enough to be noticeable.
The music is loud top 40s of the past few years and the odd R&B track. It’s still a rather lively atmosphere even though it’s now almost 2am. Some girls still dancing but most people content having a chat with their group of friends or that random person. These chicks still dancing will be the ones that need to be helped into a taxi in an hour or so.
Drinks wise, its $19 for a scotch & dry with lime and a vodka soda lime. A bit on the expensive side.
Apparently the Trust boasts that they have the longest bar in Australia. Well, the Long Room must come reasonably close I reckon… Anyway there are many staff behind the bar who are able to serve drinks. At least it doesn’t take too long to get a drink. But it is past 2am so take that comment with a grain of salt.
The various lounges and armchairs are great to rest those legs and give you a chance to chat to your friends. Pretty good after standing for the past couple of hours.
I don’t think the Long Room is the most pleasant of venues but at 1am, well… it’s an option to head to where there will be some people still around. I’d have gone to Toff in Town but the bouncers are pretty tight.
Salud
