BarAmigo’s two pesos – good to check out that sport on a Sunday arvo

The wide screen projector and some of the seating options at Arcadia

A no frills pub to check out that sporting event or have a game a pool. My mate summed it up perfectly… “Arcadia’s gotta be one of the most unpretentious pubs in South Yarra.” Essentially, Arcadia is a good pub to drop by for a casual beer on a Sunday arvo or weeknight evening to catch the game. Can’t vouch for Friday or Saturday nights though.

It’s the Australia v New Zealand friendly soccer match in Adelaide. We’re looking for a pub where we can have a quiet beer and watch the game. Arcadia is a natural choice as it has Fox Sports and a large wide screen projector. And seating… can’t go wrong really. Just gotta make sure you get a seat.

Rocking up 15 minutes before kick off there’s no problems. I guess it’s because it’s a friendly and Australia are playing an under strength NZ side. Anyway, throughout the game seats are still available so there wasn’t any need to get there early. It’s much the same for Melbourne Victory away games. You get some supporters/viewers but not too many.

Anyway, Arcadia is exactly what we’re after. Chilled out, we can watch the game and its not too expensive for food or drink. Pints around $8.50 for Fat Yak. Many other standard beers like Stella, Pure Blonde and Carlton Draught on tap as well.

Everyday, Arcadia does $5 pizzas. Don’t expect anything too flash. You’re paying $5 so what do you expect? For me it suits me just fine as I’m just after a cheap meal whilst watching the footy. My mate splurges and chooses a pizza at $8.50… taking a look at his pizza I have food envy and I shouldn’t have been so tight.

After Australia scored the second goal the bar staff realise there’s quite a few people watching the game judging by the cheer. Good for us as they turn the sound on and we get commentary. From previous experiences, the bar staff are generally pretty good at changing the channel or turning the sound on if it’s not bothering anyone.

The photos of the rooftop terrace look pretty good but haven’t been up there. Maybe worth checking out on a Sunday arvo in summer.

Australia end up winning 3-0 and it’s time to head home. Indoor soccer at 8.40pm will be a little tough after three pints.

Arcadia is a good spot to catch the game have a beer and grab some cheap pizza.
