BarAmigo’s two pesos – a corporate pub that’s good for a midweek drink and rather lively on a Friday night.

When visited – Tue 26 July 2011 6pm to 7.45pm

The bar at Collins Quarter... quiet on a Tuesday night as you'd expect

Collins Quarter isn’t just a pub but nor is it a posh pub. Polished but rather relaxed and catering for that corporate crowd with its Parisian end of Collins St address. You can chill out with a quiet drink midweek or revel in the liveliness of Friday night drinks. Pretty rowdy on Friday nights (but a good rowdy) and chilled through the week.

Work has organised some “random drinks”. Totally random but hey… good to get a drink or two on the corporate card. It’s a nice change to move somewhere else besides our “local” of Comme.

On a Tuesday night at 6pm, Collins Quarter is rather subdued with a few people around at the tables with a drink or that bit of finger food. Very different to the Friday nights I’ve been over here where it is packed and pumping. As you’d expect, very different feel early in the week compared to the end of the week.

The crowd here is very much corporate. Pretty much everyone is in business attire. As it’s a corporate crowd, age ranges vary. On a Tuesday night, you’re pretty much here just to catch up with your friends or colleagues.

I’m rather impressed with the range of beers available. When I was here a while ago, I pretty much remember (or don’t remember…) the standard beers of Stella, Kronenburg, Carlton etc. But now there are some boutiques including Stephano’s Pilsner from Mildura Brewery and Holgate Temptress. Pints of Holgate Temptress are my choice for the evening. A year or so ago I’d say I’d be staying clear of dark ales or porters but I’m changing… Holgate Temptress is superb and great to see it on tap. My colleagues are on a variety of drinks including shiraz, sav blanc and other beers. And thankfully I’ve learnt from my lesson of not delegating my drink choice to my colleagues (see Bouzy Rouge)… maybe its cause I’m sober.

After a couple of pints it’s time to head home and have a cheap dinner.

Collins Quarter is chilled on a weeknight but busy and rowdy on a Friday night. Anyway, good to catch up with your friends in decent surroundings.
