BarAmigo’s two pesos – A dime a dozen pub good to have that drink with the after work crew
When visited – Fri 19 Aug 2011 6.30pm to 8.30pm
Three Degrees… It’s an easy going pub which is good for a quiet drink afterwork. Near work (well for me anyway), lively atmosphere fitting for a Friday and cheap drinks and food. Good all round combo.
Isn’t 3 degrees the optimal temperature for beer to be served? I haven’t googled it so might just be making it up. I’ve been working nearby for 2 years and haven’t been to Three Degrees for afterwork drinks once. With options like Sister Bella, Emerald Peacock and Match… Three Degrees isn’t exactly high on the list. Anyway, my friends have already started drinking here so Three Degrees gets a gig tonight.
If you love your cider… Three Degrees is the place for you. Many many ciders on tap. I’m keen on the beers and am rather impressed by the selection. Taxi Pilsner on tap is our first choice.
Rocking up at 6.30pm there’s still room to grab a seat inside if you like. You’ll be hard pressed to find anything outside as it’s pretty full with the afterwork crowd and the smokers.
With the two big offices of Sensis and BHP right near QV, there’s plenty of workers from these offices here having a drnk on a Friday night. Many suits around but its not exactly like its a Parisian end of Collins street drinking venue. Wide variety of age ranges as you’d expect with an after work crowd.
$5 Friday night drinks? How come we didn’t see this sign earlier?! Sapporo and Heineken are a couple of the beer options available with wine and cider (I think) also available. Anyway, $5 Sapporo stubbies will be our choice for the remainder of our time here. A bowl of chips for $5 is also pretty well priced. And $12.50 fish and chips if you wanna get stuck into something more substantial. There’s plenty of cheap food and drinks options available which isn’t too bad to start a Friday night.
After spending an hour inside seated at a table, we move outside to join our smoking friends. Music wise, there’s a solo acoustic guitarist doing modern day covers. The Killers Somebody Told Me, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Counting Crows are some of the tracks played. Nice to set a scene but my friends aren’t a fan. He’s taking all the energy out of the songs and making them a little too slow for our liking. Music outside is rather different to inside with an ipod (i think) playing upbeat modern chart toppers like David Guetta’s Barbarra Streissand.
After downing 3 Sapporos in quick time it’s soon 8.30pm and we’re getting pretty peckish. Bring on Hanaichi across the square for a cheap Jap meal. Continue the jap theme of Sapporos with some jap food.
Three Degrees has been good for a cheap drink and an easy going atmosphere to catch up with the mates and work colleagues.

It is derogatory to use the term “Jap” in your article. I’m sure many Japanese people would find this offensive.
