BarAmigo’s two pesos – “a mixed bag of lollies” and “off your face music”
When visited – Sat 24 Sep 2011 9.45pm to 1.30am
Location location location… Transport Hotel at Fed Square benefits greatly from its location and draws everyone and anyone. It’s a wide diverse crowd but everyone has something in common… drink up and enjoy the night.
It’s kinda an impromptu boys night out… We’ve smashed the dumplings near chinatown and a slab and wanna head out somewhere. Where are we able to get about 10 of us in rather comfortably? Transport… We do the logical thing and split our group up into 3s and we’re all good. A little attitude from the bouncer though… “where you been tonight?” “ummm… dinner?!”
At 9.45pm its still relatively quiet inside. Not too long to get to the bar and plenty of standing room. It’s a good idea that they have a cash only bar which is immediately towards your right upon entering… no waiting for the eftpos or credit card.
Pints of James Squire Pale Ale at $10.50 a pop. Reasonable price. Quite a few beers on tap with James Squire Golden Ale… Few ciders on tap as well including a strawberry cider. Apparently there’s over 100 beers available. Kinda surprising as I wouldn’t have expected Transport to be that kind of place. I always associate Transport as being touristy and rather catering for the masses… rather than catering for those after a wide range of beer.
The crowd tonight is very much a “mixed bag of lollies” as my friend put it. Anyone and everyone. 18 year olds through to a few in their late 50s. Some girls dressed up in heels and dresses and some guys in pretty much jeans and casual shoes. Dress code doesn’t really seem to matter a heap but probably stick to the more dressy side of things to fit in rather than less dressy… especially later on a Saturday night.
Cause of it’s location, Transport attracts its fair share of travellers… Again… mixed bag of lollies.
By around 11 its pretty busy inside. Not sure if you need to line up but its getting pretty busy inside.
Music… again quoting a friend it’s “off your face music”… Tunes which are very easy to dance to after a couple of drinks… or even without a couple of drinks. MJ, Bon Jovi, Guns and Roses… All your classics that a DJ would play to fill the dance floor. Gotta love it. Well we certainly did belting out Living on a Prayer just like everyone else at about 1am.
Thankfully by 1am I’ve been chugging back the waters for the past hour or so… trying to wrap myself up in cotton wool so I can make the marathon in a couple of weeks time… yes i’m weak.
At 1.30am its time to head off. A fun night out hitting the dancefloor after many (but not too many) drinks. Can’t believe one of my friends stayed out all this time given they were driving… very tolerant and patient…
Salud
