BarAmigo’s two pesos – a classic old school pub that’s great to catch up with friends

When visited – Fri 16 Sep 2011 6pm to 8.30pm

The bar at Saint and Rogue

Saint and Rogue is a classic old school pub which retains that charm of an unpretentious drinking venue where anyone can rock up and enjoy a drink with their mates. Great choice of beers and wine staying true to what all good pubs are about.

We’ve just come from one rather unrelaxing and uninspiring drink at The Bottom End. We’re very happy taking our drinking money across the road.

$10 a pint for Mt Kosciusko Pale Ale. Better beer and cheaper. Bring on a few pints.

Rocking up at 6pm it’s pretty busy here at Saint and Rogue. Pretty much standing room only. It’s a nice a busy vibe full of energy as you’d expect at most good places on a Friday night after work.

Rather obvious but it’s the afterwork crowd which is filling Saint and Rogue. They’ve made a good choice as there is a rather lack of quality drinking venues up the King St end of the city. Few suits around as you’d expect but generally no need to dress up. Jeans and casual shoes are fine for both guys and girls.

As it’s an afterwork crowd, age range varies quite a bit. It’s a pub which caters for anyone and everyone so you have those here in your early 20s through to those in their 50s.

The projector

By around 7.15pm the pub starts to clear out a little. We’re now able to grab a couple of bar stools to rest our legs. Despite the space clearing out a little, it’s still a pretty boisterous and lively atmosphere. By about 7.45pm, we decide it’s time to grab a bite to eat and find few chairs and a table to sit at. It’s cleared out quite a lot by now and it’s those who are here for the long haul or to watch the footy through the projector beamed onto the wall.

After finishing our meal, we’re up to head on elsewhere. Not quite sure where yet but we’ll walk up towards the eastern side of the city where more is happening.

The Saint and Rogue is a truly great pub… if only I were don’t this end of the city more often.
