BarAmigo’s two pesos – one of the largest and most popular beer gardens going around… bring on summer
When visited – Sat 17 Sep 2011 3.45pm to 5pm
A classic summer time beer garden. If the sun is shining and it’s at least a reasonably warm day, Belgian Beer Cafe is bound to be busy. Grab those thongs and sunnies and a beer or cider. It’s well worth it.
Hmmm… 3.45pm for a drink… shouldn’t really be happening at this time given the night before but hey… it’s the first rather warm day we’ve had so a great time to head to Belgian Beer Cafe. And I’m going to hit London Tavern from about 5pm to catch the rugby so what’s an hour head start going to mean anyway…
You gotta love Belgian Beer Cafe when it’s warm. Tables and tables and tables out in the sun just perfect to sit at and enjoy a beer. Today is rather warm for early spring at 24 degrees and the punters are out. Many tables taken but it’s still pretty easy to grab a spot if you’re rocking up at about 4pm. If there isn’t a spare table free I’m sure you’d be right squeezing on the end of someone else’s table. They’d have to be saving the table, or be rather unreasonable, to say no to you.
Crowd wise its the rather typical South Yarra crew. You won’t find many hipsters over here. No need to dress up cause its Saturday arvo but you might wanna look the part all the same. Thongs, jeans and t shirts are the go. Not quite summer yet but the shorts and summer dresses would be out in force if it were.
Wide range in age with groups of young 20s through to families and those in their late 40s. Belgian Beer Cafe suits everyone and anyone and is rather family friendly during the day. The laid back fun vibe continues through the evening… not that I’ll be staying here tonight though.
One annoying thing when its busy at Belgian Beer Cafe are the queues for the bar. If you’re after tap beer, the kinda pretentious process of washing the glass and using the knife to knock off the head of the beer means it takes a reasonably long time to serve a beer… maybe someone will need to explain to me the beer pouring process so I could at least have an appreciation. Anyway… when Belgian Beer Cafe gets busy I’m straight to the cash line and buying bottles.
Obviously I’ve kind of gone off track and ranted a bit… Let’s cut this short… It’s 5pm and time to head to the London Tavern and check out Australia v Ireland in the rugby. In hindsight… I probably should have stayed at the Belgian Beer Cafe rather than check out the rugby.
Belgian Beer Cafe sets the standard for a large commercial beer garden. Wonderful on a warm summers day.
Salud
