BarAmigo’s two pesos – a busy and lively pub atmosphere on Friday night…

When visited – Fri 18 Nov 2011 6.15pm to 8pm

Plenty of tables and chairs at the Coopers Inn

The Coopers Inn is a boisterous lively pub on a Friday after work. Great to have a beer with friends as it’s easy to get a table, it’s the opposite of a dingy pub and well… you have the chance to win some dosh :)

I’ve seen the Coopers Inn many times whilst having a drink on a Friday at Trunk but haven’t walked in. Today’s my chance though… the combination of a late arvo down pour and limited undercover space at Trunk means we’re crossing the road for the dry interior of the Coopers Inn.

I’m pleasantly surprised with the Coopers Inn. Voice noise fills the bar and you immediately feel you’re at a good lively spot for a Friday night drink. It’s easy for the 12 of us to grab some tables and join them all together. Maybe we were just lucky that there was some available.

Beer choice is pretty good. I stick to the Fat Yak pints which were pretty standard pricing at around $10 a pint. Two jugs of Carlton and a jug of lemon lime bitters (yes I’ve never seen one of those in my life up until that night) for $43. Decent prices for the city.

Crowd wise it’s pretty varied ranging from 20s through to 50s. Mostly guys around actually. It’s certainly not the young professional crowd. Pretty laid back dress with guys in t shirts and sneakers pretty common place. No need to dress up here.  Feels like a pub for anyone and everyone but not yet quite like the drunken louts that you sometimes get at say the Elephant and Wheelbarrow.

Don’t get fooled by the $1,000 raffle… if you do get drawn, then you have to pick the joker off the wall of cards in order to win the $1,000… Anyway, it’s a nice gimmick which gets people through the door and buying drinks as you get a free ticket for each drink you buy.

And I have to mention the Movember donation raffle… $5 for 5 tickets… can’t believe one of the 15 tickets that the 3 of us bought got drawn out… $50 drink card coming our way… awesome. Straight to the bar… Maybe this is why I’m a fan of the Coopers Inn… But for the record I didn’t actually drink any of the beer bought with our drink card as I needed to take off for dinner at St. Jude’s.

The Coopers Inn is a lively place for a beer on a Friday night with your friends. I hope it wasn’t busy simply because of the heavy rain outside… anyway good times and fitting for my friend’s leaving drinks.
