BarAmigo’s two pesos – Wonderful for craft beer lovers and great for a CBD outdoor area

When visited – Fri 13 Apr 2012 6pm to 9pm

Hit up Beer Deluxe for the large beer garden and of course the beer. Huge selection of beers including many craft beers. Great for beer lovers and those who aren’t beer lovers will enjoy the outdoor space.

The beer garden at Beer Deluxe about 7pm on a Friday night

I’m here celebrating a friend’s birthday. It’s sunny, warm and a balmy (for the moment before the sun sets) and we’re enjoying the outdoor beer garden at Beer Deluxe. Apparently it’s the largest beer garden in the CBD. Does the outdoor area at Riverland count as a beer garden cause I reckon that might be larger…

Come to Beer Deluxe for… well you guessed it… the beer. 120 beers available across tap and bottles… Gee my friend really picked the wrong place to head to when I’m off alcohol for the month. All these boutique and craft beers are rather tempting but I’m holding strong.

My friends get onto the Weihenstephaner (expect $12 a pint). This is probably what I would have started with. The b’day girl is actually on the Weihenstephaner cause she wants to steal the pint glass… For the record, I encouraged her not to… Another beer on tap at the time was Stone and Wood’s Jasper Ale. They used to have Schofferhoffer. One of the good things about Beer Deluxe is the constantly different beers on tap.

At 6pm the beer garden (without any grass so can you call it a beer garden?) is rather full. No chance grabbing a table. Standing room only but still plenty of space if you’re with a group rocking up. Carlton v Collingwood at the MCG tonight so plenty of footy supporters around at the moment. Rather understandable given that its not too far a walk to the G.

It’s a busy atmosphere with heaps of voice noise around. No music outdoors. Good for a Friday after work drink. Really casual dress. It’s a pub with a beer garden so wear what you please. Most people here are in jeans and given the footy is on there’s plenty of footy scarves and jerseys around.

Beer Deluxe at 8.30pm on a Friday night... empty

By 7.30pm the crowd starts to clear as many patrons are heading to the game. Once the footy crowd has left its pretty easy to grab a seat or a table. Kinda a little too quiet once the crowd has left.

By 9pm I’m rather hungry and the night is kinda dying with not too many people at all left at Beer Deluxe. Time to head off and catch the footy I reckon.

Beer Deluxe is terrific for craft beer lovers. Also great for the outdoor setting. A not too common open space in the CBD.
