BarAmigo’s two pesos – great pub to check out your favourite sporting event.

When visited – Fri 1 Jun 2012 9.45pm to 10.45pm

The Imperial Hotel is all about sport. Whatever sporting event is on you can take it that the Imperial Hotel will be showing it. And it’s an easy going pub to enjoy a beer with your mates.

About 10.45pm at the Imperial Hotel at the "dining" area... busier earlier on a Friday night though

We’ve dropped by Eau de Vie and have now taken a completely different tack grabbing cheap dumplings and now checking out the last quarter of the footy at the Imperial Hotel. Polar opposites really.

It’s been a long long time since I’ve dropped by the Imperial Hotel but make sure you keep it in mind when you’re up the Spring St end of the city and looking to check out the footy, soccer, tennis or actually any sport for that matter… Trusty and reliable with big screens and plenty of TVs with tables nearby. Expect a decent atmosphere. None of this dull watching the game by yourself stuff. I’d have watched Euro 2012 there but it’s just way too early… or I wasn’t game enough to do all nighters with 4.45am kickoffs… (pun intended).

13 beers on tap… great beer variety which really compliments all the sport. Pity the James Squire Stow Away IPA was out at the time. I settle on the James Squire Pilsner. Expect standard city prices at around $10 a pint.

Don’t come to the Imperial Hotel expecting the same type of crowd as Eau de Vie… The crowd here is what you’d expect at a footy game. Diverse age range from early 20s through late 50s. Casual shoes, ripped jeans, hats for guys and jeans for chicks. Standard footy type crowd and pub. This all means easy, laid back and everyone here is to check out the game or simply enjoy a beer with their mates. Great for a sporty pub.

The Imperial Hotel isn’t actually that busy around 10pm but that means we’re fine to grab our seats and check out the game seated. Expect that it would be pretty busy straight after work and when the game first starts. Being at the eastern end of the CBD means it would get a fair few of the footy crowd prior to a game at the MCG.

It’s 10.45pm and we’ve seen the end of a great game between the Saints and Tigers. Hopefully Goddard, Newman and Delidio score well in Supercoach… that’s all I care about really…

Hit up the Imperial Hotel to check out your favourite sporting event. Sport basically guaranteed to be on and great to enjoy a beer in an easy going pub at the same time.
