BarAmigo’s two pesos – Something for everyone… sport… drinks… band… dj… dancefloor
When visited – Fri 6 Jul 2012 11pm to 1am
Precinct Hotel is one of those venues that varies greatly on Friday and Saturday. Much the same each night with sport, band, dj and dancefloor action but a huge line on Saturdays which succeeds in turning away a heap of punters… and squeezing a lot in.
Beers at work, wine over dinner, wine whilst playing quarters and watching the footy and now Precinct Hotel. Been a long but a good night so far.
Whenever the footy is on at the MCG I try to stay away from Swan St. As soon as the footy finishes, its long lines and packed indoors. And its Carlton v Collingwood tonight so that means there’s Collingwood supporters around… even more reason to stay away… gotta get stuck into Collingwood supporters right?!
Anyway, at 11pm on a Friday night after the footy at the G and I’m pleasantly surprised that there isn’t any line at Precinct Hotel. Walk straight in no questions asked. Well you might be asked questions if you’re wearing runners though. Smart casual dress code applies at Precinct Hotel but generally guys are fine with t shirts and decent jeans and casual shoes. Some chicks in dresses and heels but jeans are generally the trend for chicks. Saturday is different with people a bit more dressy but nothing over the top. Lot more chicks with dresses and heels.

Much of the same at zoomed out. If the band or dj doesn't take your fancy check out sport at Precinct Hotel
Inside, the many tv screens makes Precinct Hotel a good spot to watch sport. Its a spot to drink up before and after checking out the footy or cricket at the MCG. Or Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park. Tonight, its the Tour de France on TV. Premier league rules late on a Saturday night/Sunday morning.
Also good for the band and DJ. The dancefloor is busy tonight and definitely would be on Saturday nights as well. Band playing dancefloor fillers from Bon Jovi, Pearl Jam through to modern day hits like Cold Play and Black Eyed Peas. DJ mixes things up with top 50 and the odd retro hit. Always good fun on the dancefloor. Wouldn’t say its the classiest of venues going around but Precinct Hotel is generally good fun and provides that something for everyone.
If you’re looking to drop by Precinct Hotel on a Saturday night get in early like 8ish or expect to be caught in a line. Not totally sure why but the line usually snakes around from Cremorne st round the corner onto Swan. Sometimes its pretty ridiculous. But it is a lot more busy and packed inside on a Saturday night compared to Friday at Precinct Hotel.
Crowd wise its early 20s through early 30s. Quite a range actually. But the later on in the night the younger the crowd tends to become. You do start off with a bit of the Richmond work crew early on a Friday night.
Fat Yak pots for $5 and schooners for $8. But I’m on the scotch and dry with lime at this stage. Basic spirits about $8 a pop. And I’m on the shots as well… thanks to my mates. Going be tough tomorrow. Thankfully its black sambuca and not Bacardi 151…
1am and I need to get going. Looking to catch the last few km of the Tour de France. Or maybe not…
Precinct offers that something for everyone on a Friday. Sport, dancefloor, band and dj. Expect a line on Saturday from about 9pm.
Salud

Thanks for the detailed review for precint hotel. I was thinking of having my birthday there and was worried about footy crowds and lines to get in etc…. The review covered so much and answered alot of my questions. Friday night looks like a better night to have a mini function. Perhaps early say 7-7.30 when the footy crowd leaves?
Top info
Thanks Linda. I reckon Friday will just be easier. No need to stuff around with lines so people can come over whenever. But it is a little quieter from 8-10pm compared to Saturday.
I’d personally do Friday rather than Sat…
