BarAmigo’s two pesos – small, cosy “Melbourne” bar with great cocktails

When visited – Wed 18 Jul 2012 6.30pm to 7.45pm

Double Happiness is a classic “Melbourne” hole in the wall bar. Small, cosy and great drinks. Perfect to catch up with friends.

The bar at Double Happiness

Can’t believe its been so long since I’ve dropped by Double Happiness. It’s a great spot to catch up for a drink with friends…

On a Wednesday night there are probably 10-15 people inside. Just the right amount so that it feels like there’s something happening but still spread out so you have your own space and can chat to your friends. On a Friday after work I’d expect it to be a different story and pretty full. Not that its a bad thing.

Double Happiness is a small easy going cosy bar which is rather chilled out. Asian inspired which is reflective of the decor and the drinks. It’s done by the same people as Lily Blacks and New Gold Mountain so expect great cocktails. And Doulbe Happiness certainly deliver. My mate says Double Happiness does his favourite cocktail in Melbourne. Sorry don’t remember what it is… Expect $17-18 for cocktails.

Short but decent beer list. Bia Ha Noi available. Expect $9 a stubbie at Double Happiness.

It’s midweek so expect a fair age range in the crowd. Generally late 20s through to early 40s. It’s the pre dinner crew at the moment. Or those having a quick drink before heading off home. Few suits around and rather professional crowd.

Two beers and now time for an intimate dinner with my mate at Punch Lane Wine Bar. For the record we’re not gay… not that there’s anything wrong with that. Boom. Always wanted to throw in a Seinfeld reference…

Double Happiness is good to catch up with friends in a small cosy “Melbourne” bar. Can’t go wrong.
